The New Normal

Well hello there! In case you haven't noticed, I'm a little behind. And not just at blogging...you should see my laundry room. Life is just crazy! and as much as I try to tell myself that it will slow down and get back to "normal" I've had to come to terms with the fact that "normal" is long gone and never coming back.

The past couple of months have not only been extremely busy for us but also challenging in that "the little things of life all add up at the same time and take their toll" kind of way. The other day on the way home from the grocery store I was starting to feel a little sorry for myself about all of this and found myself getting discontent in it all. Just about that time a good ol' country song came on the radio that had all the answers. I've got to say, that is one of the great things about country music - they've got a song for whatever ails ya! Anyway, it was a good reminder for me that not only does life happen, but I'm not the only one who is busy. I was then reminded (this time by the Holy Spirit I'm sure) about how good and gracious God is. Even in the midst of life not being exactly they way we'd like, some really exciting and wonderful things have happened too!

One of those is that I got a job! Crazy I know. I didn't even know I was looking. Ok, maybe I did. But not too seriously. Before Adelyn was born I thought that I would like to continue working a couple days a week but knew it had to be the right opportunity. Last Tuesday I literally called to inquire, applied, interviewed, and was offered a teaching position in less than 12 hours. I am teaching 5th grade two days a week with the Home School program at our church and think that I'm going to love it. Adelyn will be attending Mom's Day Out at the church and is in the same building as my classroom. She will be doing art projects & having music class. I think this is hilarious. I'm not really sure what art & music activities you do with a 10 month old, but be my guest! I can't wait to see her masterpiece.

Ok, enough about me (if you're still reading I'm impressed). Here are a few pictures of Adelyn from the past week. We try to go for a walk in the morning before it gets too hot. Adelyn loves to "wear" her sunglasses.
Adelynflafa? The other morning Adelyn rolled out of bed and her hair was sticking straight up. Even after getting it wet and brushing it, it would not lay down.
This picture is my favorite. I don't think anymore personality could ooze out of that grin.
Here we are on our first day of school. One of us doesn't look too excited about it.

I am sooo glad that the Lilly tradition of "First Day of School" pictures continues. Adelyn, I can't wait to see some of your art projects from "school." Have fun!

The Terrific Two's

Adelyn officially hit the 2 1/2 mark a couple of months ago and oh my, this kid is a mess! She is just so full of life, personality, words, thoughts, opinions, energy, did I mention words? There are days when I'm pretty sure she's trying to reach her 5,000+ words used for the day quota before lunch time and it wears me out! She is also the sweetest, smartest, funniest, most charming 2 year old in the whole world. (In my humble opinion as her mother of course.) Don't get me wrong, she is by no means perfect. The past couple of weeks she's been in rare form but we think the two's are far more terrific than terrible. She is very much into the details and notices everything. She sees those decorative ball things that go on car antennas everywhere. One day she saw a red Mickey Mouse head and told me the reason it's red is because his overalls are red. It's been so neat to hear her start to use logic and reason or give explanations. Adelyn is quite the tease an...

Eye to Eye

It shouldn't come as much of a surprise to know that Matt & I don't always agree on everything. For example, I think Matt should appreciate what a bargain shopper I am. Matt doesn't think I should shop. Clearly, someone's mistaken. But when it comes to parenting we really have been in agreement on every issue (yes, I know it's only been 6 months) but one...Diapers. Now before you think to yourself "I wonder if they're using cloth diapers?" let me just tell you that we completely agree that money should never be saved on 3 items. Toilet Paper. Paper Towels. And you guessed it, Diapers. So what's problem? It's the size of the diaper. If it was up to Matt, Adelyn would still be wearing the newborn size. (I think he's in denial about the fact that she's actually grown since being born). I however, the head diaper changer, fully understand the importance of a well fit diaper. In Matt's defense, he has never actually changed a blow-...

The Chinese Calendar

In less than a week we will find out if Baby Lilly #2 is a boy or a girl. We are excited, anxious, nervous, and can hardly wait! As I'm sure you know, there are countless wives tales people use to predict a baby's gender. My doctor predicted a boy based on the baby's heart rate and Matt's prediciting a girl because "the Lord knows what he needs." When I was pregnant with Adelyn women would tell me I was having a boy because of the way I was "carrying" (even though we already knew she was a girl) and recently I saw a pee on the stick gender predictor kit at Target. One of the more "reliable" gender predictors someone told me about is the Chinese Calendar.  It's based on the mother's lunar age and there are two different calendars to use. So, click on these links, see what it says about your child/children, and come back to vote in my polls (in the left column) about how accurate it was for you! Make sure you vote for each child if yo...
