One Month Update

Greetings from a hungry baby & a sleepy mommy! I can hardly believe it but Adelyn is 5 weeks old and getting so big. At our 1 month check up she weighed in at 8 lbs. 4.5 ozs. and is 21 inches long! Both Adelyn & her mommy are so proud of themselves. In the past couple weeks I've noticed so many changes in her. She has been much more alert and started "talking" to us. Every once in a while it sounds like she is saying "hi". She's also started to focus her eyes on our faces & toys. She can even follow toys as I move them by turning her head & moving her eyes. I've also noticed that she's been opening and closing her hands a lot. Other than eating & sleeping Adelyn's favorite things are to look in the mirror, stare at lights & cuddling. She really doesn't like tummy time and has gotten so mad about it a couple of times that she rolls herself over. I've also found her in her crib turned a completely different direction than the way I layed her down. So even though I'm tired, she makes me laugh and I'm having lots of fun with her. Here are some pictures from the past week...

"That's very interesting, mommy. Sleeping through
the night is something I haven't considered."

I love to swing!

Look at me holding my head up like a big girl!

Have I mentioned that Dakota thinks Adelyn
has cozy places to sleep?

The Terrific Two's

Adelyn officially hit the 2 1/2 mark a couple of months ago and oh my, this kid is a mess! She is just so full of life, personality, words, thoughts, opinions, energy, did I mention words? There are days when I'm pretty sure she's trying to reach her 5,000+ words used for the day quota before lunch time and it wears me out! She is also the sweetest, smartest, funniest, most charming 2 year old in the whole world. (In my humble opinion as her mother of course.) Don't get me wrong, she is by no means perfect. The past couple of weeks she's been in rare form but we think the two's are far more terrific than terrible. She is very much into the details and notices everything. She sees those decorative ball things that go on car antennas everywhere. One day she saw a red Mickey Mouse head and told me the reason it's red is because his overalls are red. It's been so neat to hear her start to use logic and reason or give explanations. Adelyn is quite the tease an...

Eye to Eye

It shouldn't come as much of a surprise to know that Matt & I don't always agree on everything. For example, I think Matt should appreciate what a bargain shopper I am. Matt doesn't think I should shop. Clearly, someone's mistaken. But when it comes to parenting we really have been in agreement on every issue (yes, I know it's only been 6 months) but one...Diapers. Now before you think to yourself "I wonder if they're using cloth diapers?" let me just tell you that we completely agree that money should never be saved on 3 items. Toilet Paper. Paper Towels. And you guessed it, Diapers. So what's problem? It's the size of the diaper. If it was up to Matt, Adelyn would still be wearing the newborn size. (I think he's in denial about the fact that she's actually grown since being born). I however, the head diaper changer, fully understand the importance of a well fit diaper. In Matt's defense, he has never actually changed a blow-...

The Chinese Calendar

In less than a week we will find out if Baby Lilly #2 is a boy or a girl. We are excited, anxious, nervous, and can hardly wait! As I'm sure you know, there are countless wives tales people use to predict a baby's gender. My doctor predicted a boy based on the baby's heart rate and Matt's prediciting a girl because "the Lord knows what he needs." When I was pregnant with Adelyn women would tell me I was having a boy because of the way I was "carrying" (even though we already knew she was a girl) and recently I saw a pee on the stick gender predictor kit at Target. One of the more "reliable" gender predictors someone told me about is the Chinese Calendar.  It's based on the mother's lunar age and there are two different calendars to use. So, click on these links, see what it says about your child/children, and come back to vote in my polls (in the left column) about how accurate it was for you! Make sure you vote for each child if yo...
