Something to think about...

We definitely have our fair share of TV shows we like to watch...American Idol, The Bachelor, The Unit, Private Practice, the occasional Regis & Kelly. But when it comes to Adelyn I've been very careful not to let her watch TV. One because when it is on she zones in and can't do anything else. And two because there really isn't anything on TV for an 8 month old. Anyways, today as I was browsing my "What to Expect the First Year" book I came across some disturbing information...

"According to Nielsen Media Research, children two to twelve years of age watch an average of twenty-five hours of television a week. If your daughter's viewing falls into that average range, she will have spent 15,000 hours glued to the set by the time she graduates from high school-about 4,000 more hours than she will have spent in school. If her viewing isn't carefully screened, she will, research suggests, have witnessed 18,000 murderers, countless robberies, rapes, bombings, and beatings, and more casual sex than you could imagine. She will have also been the innocent target of 350,000 commercials."

So I really don't intend for this blog to be my personal soap box but seeing all those numbers really surprised me. Poor Adelyn is not going to be the cool kid on the playground when it comes to her TV trivia knowledge.

On a much lighter note - here is a picture of my crawling, climbing, cheerio eating, kitty chasing, sweet girl who is also very concerned with her dental hygiene.

Two!

On August 2nd the Buddy Boy turned 2! He was and still is so incredibly proud of himself over this achievement.   Caiden is the most perfect combination of all boy and sweet and snuggly toddler that there ever could be! He loves trucks and balls, throws caution to the wind, and has a stubborn streak that isn't going anywhere. He adores his daddy more than I can explain, loves to get kisses from mommy and wants to do everything his big sister does. We never knew how much we needed this little boy until he arrived and we are so humbled and blessed because we were chosen to be his mommy and daddy.   How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy we have in the presence of our God because of you?   1 Thessalonians 3:9

"I have ponytail!"

Yesterday Adelyn wanted me to fix her hair in a ponytail. I can assure you it's much harder than it sounds. Poor kid got my hair. But she doesn't know it and after seeing herself in the mirror she was so proud. The first thing she wanted to do was show daddy. So, we made him a video... At dinner I was lamenting about how grown up she looks and that it makes me kind of sad. Matt's sympathetic response? "Her hair really isn't long enough for a ponytail if you ask me. She looks like a boy from the front and when she turns to the side she looks like a pirate." Ahh, just what every girl wants to hear, "you look like a pirate."

The Terrific Two's

Adelyn officially hit the 2 1/2 mark a couple of months ago and oh my, this kid is a mess! She is just so full of life, personality, words, thoughts, opinions, energy, did I mention words? There are days when I'm pretty sure she's trying to reach her 5,000+ words used for the day quota before lunch time and it wears me out! She is also the sweetest, smartest, funniest, most charming 2 year old in the whole world. (In my humble opinion as her mother of course.) Don't get me wrong, she is by no means perfect. The past couple of weeks she's been in rare form but we think the two's are far more terrific than terrible. She is very much into the details and notices everything. She sees those decorative ball things that go on car antennas everywhere. One day she saw a red Mickey Mouse head and told me the reason it's red is because his overalls are red. It's been so neat to hear her start to use logic and reason or give explanations. Adelyn is quite the tease an...
