December 2011

I'm getting closer and closer to "catching up" on blog posts. Pretend like it's December 31st instead of January 31st.  Just like you we had a very busy December. Here are a few of our highlights...

Matt and Adelyn took a trip to Kentucky to visit Mimi and Grandpa at the beginning of the month. They were suppossed to go in August but then you know who showed up ahead of schedule. They had an early flight and I think we took these pictures at 5:45 am. Adelyn was too excited to be tired!

They had a great time making cookies, visiting with Aunt Janie and Uncle Jewel, seeing the train exhibit at the children's museum and more. Adelyn did really well on both flights and overall it was a huge success!

While Matt and Adelyn were in Kentucky, Caiden and I were at home getting ready for the Christmas party I agreed to host. Our Life Group has a progressive dinner and hay ride each year and the dinner portion was at our house. It was a lot of work but I really enjoyed using my Christmas china and other pieces that I was given when we got married. What I didn't have I was able to borrow from my mom. After giving 3 weddings she has quite the treasure trove of table decor!

I was so happy with how pretty and festive the blue and white china looked with a red plaid ribbon. I had planned to use the pinecones as place card holders but ran out of time and never got the place cards made.

we also enjoyed...

The Terrific Two's

Adelyn officially hit the 2 1/2 mark a couple of months ago and oh my, this kid is a mess! She is just so full of life, personality, words, thoughts, opinions, energy, did I mention words? There are days when I'm pretty sure she's trying to reach her 5,000+ words used for the day quota before lunch time and it wears me out! She is also the sweetest, smartest, funniest, most charming 2 year old in the whole world. (In my humble opinion as her mother of course.) Don't get me wrong, she is by no means perfect. The past couple of weeks she's been in rare form but we think the two's are far more terrific than terrible. She is very much into the details and notices everything. She sees those decorative ball things that go on car antennas everywhere. One day she saw a red Mickey Mouse head and told me the reason it's red is because his overalls are red. It's been so neat to hear her start to use logic and reason or give explanations. Adelyn is quite the tease an...

Eye to Eye

It shouldn't come as much of a surprise to know that Matt & I don't always agree on everything. For example, I think Matt should appreciate what a bargain shopper I am. Matt doesn't think I should shop. Clearly, someone's mistaken. But when it comes to parenting we really have been in agreement on every issue (yes, I know it's only been 6 months) but one...Diapers. Now before you think to yourself "I wonder if they're using cloth diapers?" let me just tell you that we completely agree that money should never be saved on 3 items. Toilet Paper. Paper Towels. And you guessed it, Diapers. So what's problem? It's the size of the diaper. If it was up to Matt, Adelyn would still be wearing the newborn size. (I think he's in denial about the fact that she's actually grown since being born). I however, the head diaper changer, fully understand the importance of a well fit diaper. In Matt's defense, he has never actually changed a blow-...

The Chinese Calendar

In less than a week we will find out if Baby Lilly #2 is a boy or a girl. We are excited, anxious, nervous, and can hardly wait! As I'm sure you know, there are countless wives tales people use to predict a baby's gender. My doctor predicted a boy based on the baby's heart rate and Matt's prediciting a girl because "the Lord knows what he needs." When I was pregnant with Adelyn women would tell me I was having a boy because of the way I was "carrying" (even though we already knew she was a girl) and recently I saw a pee on the stick gender predictor kit at Target. One of the more "reliable" gender predictors someone told me about is the Chinese Calendar.  It's based on the mother's lunar age and there are two different calendars to use. So, click on these links, see what it says about your child/children, and come back to vote in my polls (in the left column) about how accurate it was for you! Make sure you vote for each child if yo...
