Caiden - 11 months

I know it's cliche, but I don't care...I can't believe that Caiden is 11 months old! This year has gone by faster than any other year of my life but I've really tried to savor the sweet moments and enjoy each stage while also looking forward to the next because I know it just gets better and better. Of course it goes without saying that there have also been a lot of hard moments, tears shed and sleepless nights.

The last time I blogged about what mr. Caiden has been up to he was 6 months old and toothless. Since then he cut 4 top and 4 bottom teeth and is currently working on molars. When I'm all done having children and that child cuts the very last tooth, I'm throwing myself a party and all my mommy friends are invited!!

He's also started doing all the things you'd expect - sitting up, rolling both ways, eating solid foods, and army crawling. He's not crawling on his hands and knees yet or pulling up on anything. Regardless of that he still manages to get himself into trouble. One day he fell out of the exersaucer. How can a baby who does not crawl, pull up, or climb anything fall out of an exersaucer? I have no idea!

"Remind me how this rolling thing works? Look up and think rolling thoughts?"

Introducing solid foods was different than I was expecting the second time around. For the first two weeks Caiden would cough, gag, and spit out anything I fed him. It didn't matter if it was pears, bananas, squash or peas. Then one day, out of sheer frustration I gave him a teeny tiny piece of a Cheerio. He gummed that thing up with the biggest smile on his face!

Ever since then he's been eating table foods although I finally got him to eat some baby food for awhile. Prunes were a success from the 2nd bite but everything else was hit or miss. Watermelon is definitely a favorite along with pineapple, turkey, and spaghetti. He has a big appetite and loves to eat! If he sees Adelyn eating something you can be sure that he wants to eat it too. He's become quite vocal about it which is creating some lovely meal time challenges.

Caiden has always been a good napper. He usually takes a 1.5 - 2 hour morning nap and 2 hour afternoon nap. Bedtime can still be a little tricky. Most nights he goes down well for me but he hardly ever goes down for a babysitter. We just keep the swing in his room and he usually ends up in there until I get home. Last night though he had a big breakthrough and went right to sleep in his crib for Gigi!

Caiden is a pretty sweet and happy guy. He still loves to cuddle, loves his daddy, and thinks Adelyn is hilarious. In the past month he's become much more vocal and would really like to join all the different conversations going on around here. He's also very playful and loves to tease - usually by pulling our hair. Caiden adds so much love and fun to our family! We can not get enough of his cute smile and funny little laugh.

The Terrific Two's

Adelyn officially hit the 2 1/2 mark a couple of months ago and oh my, this kid is a mess! She is just so full of life, personality, words, thoughts, opinions, energy, did I mention words? There are days when I'm pretty sure she's trying to reach her 5,000+ words used for the day quota before lunch time and it wears me out! She is also the sweetest, smartest, funniest, most charming 2 year old in the whole world. (In my humble opinion as her mother of course.) Don't get me wrong, she is by no means perfect. The past couple of weeks she's been in rare form but we think the two's are far more terrific than terrible. She is very much into the details and notices everything. She sees those decorative ball things that go on car antennas everywhere. One day she saw a red Mickey Mouse head and told me the reason it's red is because his overalls are red. It's been so neat to hear her start to use logic and reason or give explanations. Adelyn is quite the tease an...

Eye to Eye

It shouldn't come as much of a surprise to know that Matt & I don't always agree on everything. For example, I think Matt should appreciate what a bargain shopper I am. Matt doesn't think I should shop. Clearly, someone's mistaken. But when it comes to parenting we really have been in agreement on every issue (yes, I know it's only been 6 months) but one...Diapers. Now before you think to yourself "I wonder if they're using cloth diapers?" let me just tell you that we completely agree that money should never be saved on 3 items. Toilet Paper. Paper Towels. And you guessed it, Diapers. So what's problem? It's the size of the diaper. If it was up to Matt, Adelyn would still be wearing the newborn size. (I think he's in denial about the fact that she's actually grown since being born). I however, the head diaper changer, fully understand the importance of a well fit diaper. In Matt's defense, he has never actually changed a blow-...

The Chinese Calendar

In less than a week we will find out if Baby Lilly #2 is a boy or a girl. We are excited, anxious, nervous, and can hardly wait! As I'm sure you know, there are countless wives tales people use to predict a baby's gender. My doctor predicted a boy based on the baby's heart rate and Matt's prediciting a girl because "the Lord knows what he needs." When I was pregnant with Adelyn women would tell me I was having a boy because of the way I was "carrying" (even though we already knew she was a girl) and recently I saw a pee on the stick gender predictor kit at Target. One of the more "reliable" gender predictors someone told me about is the Chinese Calendar.  It's based on the mother's lunar age and there are two different calendars to use. So, click on these links, see what it says about your child/children, and come back to vote in my polls (in the left column) about how accurate it was for you! Make sure you vote for each child if yo...
